Caeden’s Birth Story

Kati | Caeden | November, 13 2008 | 3 Comments

So, here I am on another Sunday evening watching the Steeler’s game. It’s the 4th quarter and things seem great.. that is until the last 4 seconds of the game.. when they just can’t get it done. Disappointed by a loss at home… I sulked as I put Serenity to bed… and went in to start some homework.

I was focusing really hard on completing this anatomy & physiology test.. and stressing about the on campus test that is coming up. In an instant I called to Heath and told him that I either pee’d myself or my water broke. I decided to give it some time and see.. about about 15 minutes.. we had some more fluid..and I was sure.

Of course my doctor was out-of-town.. so I had to call this office and that office.. and the hospital before I could even go it. It was really making me mad. We had to call Heath’s mom.. and wake Serenity up. Off to the hospital we went.

At the hospital… I refused the pitocin. I wanted to see if we had any progression on my own. My contractions were very irregular, but they were working. In 2 hours I went from 2 to 5 centimeters dialated.

Heath’s mom picked up Serenity around 11 P.M… and at that point I decided I needed some pain meds. I wasn’t hooked on the idea of an epidural.. so I took some IV meds. For the life of me.. I cannot remember what they gave me.. but it did NOTHING for the pain.. and made me dizzy and sick! At this point.. I was groggy and whiny.. and decided to go for the epidural.

Yea.. a crappy needle in the spine.. and I was sure relief was on the way. WRONG. I was numb for less than an hour. I was about 7 cm dialated and I could feel every little move he made and I seriously thought I might die. I wanted more epidural.. but they kept insisting that it was on a drip so I was getting it constantly.. but I could still feel everything. I was shaking and tired..

Finally at about 3:15ish.. I had to push.. no denying that since I could feel everything. I swear I was hyperventilating and crying. I was sooo done. The office doctor was taking forever to get there and I was angry.

Upon the doctor’s arrival.. I literally pushed for 5 PAINFUL minutes and he was born. I swear it was the most painful thing I have ever done in my entire life.. but totally worth it.

Caeden was a shocking 8 lbs 9 oz and 20.5 inches long! He was completely healthy and very quiet. His official time of birth was 3:29 A.M.

I will update this post with photos in a bit..
