Father’s Day is right around the corner and I have been a total slacker. No joke.. I planned my usual trip the day before in an attempt to try and hunt down the perfect gift for my impossible husband. We had already decided on a DQ cake from the kids and both kids have already made cards… but otherwise.. I was stuck!! Luckily, TJ Maxx & Marshalls came to my rescue with great gift ideas for all types of dads!! I was able to find a great gift for my husband and cannot wait to celebrate with the kids!
- For the “Techie” Dad: If dad is always in search of the newest gadgets, why not pick up some great accessories to pair with them. Get some MP3 add-ons like speakers, headphones or a leather carrying case to make his music listening experience a special one. You can also grab some fun laptop and office supplies that can make work more enjoyable.
- For the “Sports Enthusiast”: For the sports fanatic in your life purchase some apparel from his favorite sports team so he can showcase his pride. You can complete the package with a new pair of brand-name sneakers.
- For The Gourmet Chef Fanatic: With summer right around the corner help get him prepared with grilling tools and unique spices. A new recipe book and apron will guarantee a summer full of tasty treats.
- For the “Beach Bum”: If dad is happiest at the beach, help him update those faded swim trunks and worn out flip flops with brand new beach gear.Add in a beach towel and a pair of designer shades to complete the look.
So, what did I really think?
Honestly, I had never step foot into a Marshalls prior to this event. We do have a close TJ Maxx but the location is not one of my favorites. I was on a mission to find a great priced item.. and I did just that. Now, I am not planning to reveal my gift for fear my husband may be watching… but I will tell you that the stores really offer a bang for your buck.
Most stores have a clearance/sale department but they are often cluttered, disorganized, and just plain annoying to pick through. That is the difference between traditional department stores and “Off-Price” shopping stores like TJ Maxx and Marshalls…. the entire store is discounted!!

I love to shop at our thrift store for clothes. Because we live in a more expensive area, people give away their beautiful Ann Taylor outfits (many times with the tags still on!). I can get them for extremely cheap, and have a nice Sunday outfit. :)

When going to a TJ Maxx or Marshalls make a circle around the store to get an overview of what there might be that interest you. Then go back to the sections that really caught your attention.

i LOVE those stores…they have great name brand stuff for a fraction of the price. If I need a gift for someone..I head over to TJMaxx or Marshalls (we have both down teh street from my house)!

Don’t just look for “trendy products”. Buy products you will enjoy for more than one season and particularly look for separates you can build upon.

I like to go to Marshalls when I have plenty of time to shop and look through the sale racks. I usually find stylish, brand new clothing at prices CHEAPER than offered in the thrift store!

I do a lot of shopping at our local Goodwill. I never fail to find a designer label! I just bought Talbots Bermuda khaki shorts for $3.99. I’m sure they were at least $49.99 at Talbots originally!

I enjoy being able to go to both of these stores they always have great deal’s for everyone in my family and you can get alot of the name brand clothes that you want for nearly half the price!!!

Not only do I live by a Marshall’s but by a great outlet with designer brand stores…but just because it’s an outlet doesn’t mean you always get a good price, so watch out. I just learned some of the stores there are actually a regular store

LOVE shopping the at Plato’s Closet & other consignment stores. Their prices are slightly higher than thrift store clothes, but they are all name brand such as Aeropostale, Abercrombie, Victoria Secret, etc & lots of times they come with the tags still on them!

I love buying higher quality, brand name clothes…but cannot typically afford to do so. For some great deals, I have set up several (very specific) searches on eBay for particular brands…as well as the size and type of clothing that I am seeking (i.e. jeans, shirt, sweater, etc.).
Along the same lines, you really can’t beat T.J. Maxx for incredible deals on name-brand clothing!!

if you pay attention, sometimes stores like Gordman’s, TJ Maxx etc, will mark down their clearance items, for example 33% off of their already cheap clearance stuff. That’s where most of my little guys’ clothes come from!

My frugalista fashion tip is to build your wardrobe around classic and timeless pieces (black pants, khakis, solid tees) and then just add updated jewelry and other accessories to keep the look more modern without spending a fortune. I can find great accessories on clearance at most stores.
