Kumon Publishing Review & Giveaway

I am always excited for new ways to teach my preschooler.. and a searching for a variety of activity pages and projects is always on my mind.

Kumon Publishing North America was founded in 2004 but the method dates back nearly 50 years to founder, Toru Kumon. Kumon Publishing offers workbooks for children of all ages including those just making their first scribbles . They offer a large variety of workbooks for Pre-K and Kindergarten students in both language and math as well as the basic skills of tracing, drawing, and cutting. They have extensive math books for grades 1-6. Their collection of reading and writing skills will be expanding in 2010 & 2011 . Spanish books are including in the collection as well.

Mission: Toru Kumon’s aim in developing the Kumon Method of learning was to help each individual child realize his or her full potential. This remains the shared mission of all Kumon enterprises today.

Kumon also have a string of Learning Centers that assist students from preschool to 6th grade in their math and reading skills. It is the Kumon belief that every child possessing the ability to excel academically, but sometimes they just need help tapping into that ability. The Kumon Method begins with an assessment of your child’s current abilities and uses that as a starting point for success. Worksheets are assigned with clear examples and problems. Each set of worksheets get progressively harder, which allows concepts to be learned completely.

What did we think?

We loved the opportunity to explore new workbooks. All books are gender neutral so both boys and girls can enjoy the activities. I love teaching Serenity new skills even though she doesn’t always want to learn them.. from me! She had a blast with the Maze book we received. She is also very into learning how to write her numbers and the books we received gave her the opportunity to trace and write them. The books had more pages than I had expected and the quality of the book itself was outstanding. I was really expecting a flimsy little book that would surely fall apart of the hands of a 3.. nearly 4 year old.. but I was wrong! I love these workbooks and have plans to purchase other editions… my favorites are cutting , pasting , and simple addition . I have found the books to be very reasonably prices from $5.95-9.95 and you can even purchase them locally!
