My CMA Predictions
I love the CMA’s.. its such a magical time of the year..
Well, tonight is the night.. and the red carpet will be rolled out at 7 PM ET and you better believe that I will be set up in front of the TV with a bag of popcorn and tall glass of KoolAid. So, let’s talk predictions. Of course I have my personal favorites, but I am really going to try to be impartial with my picks based on who I think has the best chance of winning and why! Tomorrow, we will compare!
ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR
Kenny Chesney
Brad Paisley
George Strait
Taylor Swift

FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR
Miranda Lambert
Martina McBride
Reba McEntire
Taylor Swift
Carrie Underwood
I want to start off by saying that I LOVE Reba. She is a country music legend.. and I feel she should take the award this year. I don’t think she will. For me, it comes down to Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. I am going to chose Taylor Swift to win this award. When I think music over the last year, Carrie Underwood songs just do not come to mind. Granted, she currently has a smash hit with “Cowboy Casanova,” but that has no bearing on these awards. Miss Taylor has had several songs including; “White Horse”, “You Belong with Me”, and “Love Story”. I think she has this category in the bag.

MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR
Kenny Chesney
Brad Paisley
Darius Rucker
George Strait
Keith Urban
Wow! Darius Rucker? I loved ALL of his songs.. but I didnt think that he was really worthy of this title.. yet. Considering the rest, Ahhh. I really want Kenny Chesney to win.. and with a history such as George Strait.. wow.. he deserves it. I think that Brad Paisley has it though. I feel in the last few years, he has really blossomed.

NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR
Randy Houser
Jamey Johnson
Jake Owen
Darius Rucker
Zac Brown Band
Hands down.. the Zac Brown Band. Honestly, “Chicken Fried”, “Whatever it Is”, and now “Toes”.. they are on FIRE! I’m sorry, I know Jake Owen has had a break through year.. but he has been on the charts for several years now. Nope. Darius Rucker.. well.. he is a star.. no doubt. Jamey Johnson is a fantastic songwriter. “In Color” was a fantastic song for him, but that is all he has and I really dont think that is enough to warrent him this particular award.
VOCAL GROUP OF THE YEAR
Eagles
Lady Antebellum
Little Big Town
Rascal Flatts
Zac Brown Band
I have been going back and forth, back and forth.. and I am still conflicted. Rascal Flatts is of course amazing. Lady Antebellum has had a breakthrough year.. as had the Zac Brown Band. Ahhhh! Um, I am going to go with the Zac Brown Band.. and that is purely a guess.

VOCAL DUO OF THE YEAR
Big & Rich
Brooks & Dunn
Joey + Rory
Montgomery Gentry
Sugarland
For the past few years, this has been a no brainer, but something in me says that Sugarland does not have this in the bag this year. Earlier this year, Brooks & Dunn announced their retirement.. hmmm. Montgomery Gentry has always been one of my favorites and I honestly do not believe that get the credit they deserve as performers. I think that Brooks & Dunn is going to take the award this year.. mostly because of their retirement.

SINGLE OF THE YEAR
(Award goes to Artist and Producer)
“Chicken Fried”
Zac Brown Band
“I Run To You”
Lady Antebellum
“In Color”
Jamey Johnson
“People Are Crazy”
Billy Currington
“Then”
Brad Paisley

ALBUM OF THE YEAR
(Award goes to Artist and Producer)
American Saturday Night
Brad Paisley
Defying Gravity
Keith Urban
Fearless
Taylor Swift
Love On The Inside
Sugarland
That Lonesome Song
Jamey Johnson
Part of me is shocked by the fact that this is it for this category. I think that Taylor Swift has this in the bag. She has continued the success over and this is her year to sweep the awards.

SONG OF THE YEAR
(Award goes to Songwriter(s))
“Chicken Fried”
Zac Brown/Wyatt Durrette
“I Told You So”
Randy Travis
“In Color”
Jamey Johnson/Lee Thomas Miller/James Otto
“People Are Crazy”
Bobby Braddock/Troy Jones
“Then”
Brad Paisley/Chris DuBois/Ashley Gorley
Ah! So many fantastic songs. In fact, they are all great. I am giving this award to “Chicken Fried”. The Zac Brown Band has broken the mold and has truly gone big. The song was HUGE in general.. for a really long time… and it is still HUGE. Everyone knows this song.. inside and out of country music.

MUSICAL EVENT OF THE YEAR
(Award goes to each Artist)
“Cowgirls Don’t Cry”
Brooks & Dunn featuring Reba McEntire
“Down The Road”
Kenny Chesney (with Mac McAnally)
“Everything But Quits”
Lee Ann Womack (duet with George Strait)
“I Told You So”
Carrie Underwood featuring Randy Travis
“Old Enough”
The Raconteurs featuring Ricky Skaggs and Ashley Monroe
“Start A Band”
Brad Paisley (duet with Keith Urban)
Can there be a four way tie? Brad and Keith had a super fun song. Carrie Underwood is like country musics sweetheart and Randy Travis is a legend. Kenny Chesney is successful no matter what. But my choice for the winner is, “Cowgirls Don’t Cry” by Brooks & Dunn ft. Reba. Both of them are LEGENDS. The song was fantastic, but when the added Reba.. that really pushed it over the top.

MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR
(Award goes to Artist and Director)
“Boots On”
Randy Houser
“Love Story”
Taylor Swift
“People Are Crazy”
Billy Currington
“Start A Band”
Brad Paisley (duet with Keith Urban)
“Troubadour”
George Strait
George Strait is a legend and never fails to produce a great song. The video for me was okay. I loved the Randy Houser song.. but the video just didn’t do it for me. I think this award goes to “White Horse” by Taylor Swift. It was a heartbreaking video. She allowed herself to seem vulnerable and it really encompassed the essence of that video.
